Camp Go Away Film Days

Recently I had the pleasure to be part of a three day workshop where photographers were encouraged to get away from their daily grind and enjoy nature and analog shooting.  This may sound like a simple thing - unplug and unwind, right?  Most realize this is easier said than done, so what do you need to get you to really take a step back and release your inner creativity?  That's a personal question for all, but one way to do it is head out to a beautiful setting with little cell coverage and lots of analog subject matter.  The rest just unfolds.  Breathe deep and enjoy nature.

The event was held at a wonderful place in Port Jervis NY - if you are looking for a nice getaway the area is scenic and special.  Cedar Lake Estates- http://www.cedarlakesestate.com/

I brought a bunch of film and Instax cameras and there were plenty of other analog toys to use in the scenic campgrounds.

 I also used an XQ1 with an underwater housing for some pool fun.  The camera has a great sensor and the housing makes shooting a breeze.

 There were some fun photo opps around the pool for sure.

 One adventurous person took to blobbing in the cool foggy day!

 The beauty of this shot is that I set the X-T1 on the lifeguard chair and used the Remote Control app and shot an image of us on the doc.  You can see me in red on the right waving.

 Later in the night Dan from Foto Care brought out some awesome strobe units.

 I shot these with the X-T1 by timing the exposure with the photog who was syncing to the B1.  My 8fps made it easier to time the frame.

 Easy to see we shot a lot of instant film.  What's not to love??
